Support Engineer (100% telecommute) San Francisco, CA, Boston, MA

Our support engineering team works closely with our customers to ensure they have an amazing experience with our software. This is a role that puts you at the pointy end of Campaign Monitor. If our customer service team spots a problem a customer is experiencing that looks like a bug, it will be up to you to troubleshoot and ideally fix the problem on the spot. On some days you'll be pushing to production multiple times. That makes this a challenging, but also extremely rewarding role. If you get a kick out of looking like a hero and saving the day for people in need, this is the position for you.

While our head office is in Sydney, we're looking for someone to work from home (or we'll find you a sweet office) to cover US office hours. It's a remote role, but you'll be working closely with our US-based customer support team, plus the rest of the support engineering team back in Australia. This means you'll need to be a motivated self-starter who is happy hunting bugs and won't take "I can't figure it out" for an answer.

JavaScript Developer Melbourne, Australia

We're after an experienced software developer who has a track record in building great web applications and interesting User Interfaces to join an established team to deliver a new web application product to market.

We're building an intuitive, modern and individual-focussed application with only new tech, both on the UI side and the back end. So there's an option to get involved with more than just the front end. We would love to talk about any pet projects that you're working on that could be a great fit into what we're building.

If you like to solve interesting problems and want to help guide this green fields app, have great ideas on how to build cool and fun-to-use applications, and like to work with other passionate developers, then we're looking for you.

We're a flexible set of people, and are just focussed on building a great product that people will want to use, so we're very confident a suitable developer will have a great time working with us.

We're building an application that targets creative workers, which assists them in getting feedback from clients and helps them keep track of their work. We're taking inspiration from services like github, stackoverflow and trello that add a social dimension to peoples' jobs and interests.

Program Manager - Do you get stuff done? Sausalito, CA

We need someone to help us get stuff built.  We have a lot of stuff to build and we don't have enough stuff-doers.  We are looking for people who know how to and love to do the stuff themselves, not just tell other people to go do the stuff.  And it's fun stuff.  We work in the professional and prosumer photography industries and with other creative visual artists and businesses.  Because our customers are a demanding lot, visually speaking, it's not just any old stuff that we build, but really beautiful stuff, so we need people with a discerning eye and a drive for perfection: it really is the fine details that differentiate the crap stuff from the amazing stuff.

So, what is the stuff we're talking about?  Primarily, we're talking about highly customizable websites for said photographers, and a bunch of other stuff that goes along with them such as mobile apps, etc.

We have code-writers, so you don't need to do that per se (it helps greatly if you have in the past), but you need to define what they are going to build in great detail by coordinating with amazing visual and experience designers as well as a kick-ass QA team.  In this role, you are the interface between the customer, the marketing team, the business development team, the support team, and the developers.

As for how you get the stuff done, we're not very religious about that. SCRUM, waterfall, whatever.

We are a tight team, so we are looking for great team players - individuals that add a multiplier factor to a team's greatness and who do the best for the whole company and not just for the individual.  If you love setting a high standard and coaching the best out of those around you, this is a great place to work.

We are a distributed team, so some travel and flexibility with hours is part of the package.

Software Engineer/Architect - Build to drive global creativity Sausalito, CA

We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer / Architect to work out of our Sausalito office. The Development team is dispersed between our US headquarters in Sausalito and our branch office in Romania. Our current technology base revolves around the typical LAMP stack and this position is expected to help us grow and extend that base while including other technologies where and if appropriate. This position requires some travel to Romania and possibly other locations in the US and Europe.

To be given an opportunity to succeed with liveBooks you must be intelligent, passionate, engaged, curious, and creative with a high degree of integrity and an open, friendly style about you. Come prepared to share with us how you have been successful at building excellent web-based applications or platforms.

Responsibilities:
• Write great code.
• Architect elegant solutions to simple and complex problems alike.
• Work on a various different projects, sometimes several simultaneously.
• Work and communicate well with a geographically-distributed international development team.
• Participate in the QA process (driven by a QA team).
• Mentor less experienced team members and lead by example.

We are looking for independents only. If you are a contracting company trying to find work for your stable of contractors, we are not interested in reading your stupid recycled marketing email. (If you are a contractor at such a company and don't like it, then of course we DO want to hear from you!)

    Awesome Software Engineer Chicago, IL

    Description

If this job isn’t right for you, we’ll pay you $5,000 if you refer someone who is hired! Have them contact us or send us their contact information and we will do all of the leg work.*

We are growing our team and are seeking developers with all levels of experience. Instead of including a list of requirements we want you to understand how we work. If our environment sounds like a place for you, then go to our ‘How to Apply’ section and follow the instructions.

    How we work

    We are polyglots...

Although most of our software is written in Ruby, we don’t confine ourselves to a single programming language. We believe in using the best tool for the job while maintaining a slight bias toward the tools the team knows the best. We’ve written infrastructure components in Python, Node.js, and Clojure, and we build client libraries for integrating with Braintree in Ruby, Python, Node.js, PHP, Java, .NET, Perl, and Objective-C.

    We pair...

We pair program to write all of our software. We work on Mac Pros with two keyboards and dual 27" cinema displays. We work in an open team room; no cubicles or private offices. Communication is key to our process, and we don't want to hinder it with walls.

    We test...

Testing is at the forefront of our development philosophy. We never need to check our code coverage to know that it's at 100%: with disciplined TDD, no line of code will be written without a test. We don't have a QA team. That might be terrifying when you consider the type of software that we're building, but we're confident that our automated testing is thorough and will catch any regression bugs. We use continuous integration to test every version of every client library against our gateway.

    We are agile...

Agile development methodologies mean different things to different people. For us, the most important part of Agile is doing what works best for the team. We have a story card wall and release a few times a week. We keep the team in sync with daily standups and have a retrospective once a month to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvements. We’re pragmatic, not dogmatic. Although we have strong opinions, we're never afraid to try to new things to see if they work and reconsider our positions if the situation warrants it.

    We value our people...

We spend half a day every week working on whatever we’re interested in, regardless of whether it's relevant to the business. Some examples of the things people have chosen to work on include competing against each other to build a mesh chat client in node.js, contributing to open source projects, and discussing strategies for our Google AI challenge submissions.

Salaries are generous and compensation packages include 401k contributions, and ample vacation time.

    Interested?

We're looking for people who are interested in getting in on the ground floor of an incredible opportunity to build amazing software and transform the payments industry.

Take a look at some of our blog posts to see some of the problems we face:
    http://www.braintreepayments.com/inside-braintree/how-we-built-the-software-that-processes-billions-in-payments

Take a look at some of the code we have on github: https://github.com/braintree

Think you’ve got something to contribute to our exceptional team? We’d like to hear from you!

**NOTE: The referrer will receive this bonus only after the candidate is employed at Braintree for at least 60 days after his or her start date. The referrer must also complete and return a w-9 in order to receive the bonus. The referrer is responsible for paying taxes on the referral bonus. Also, to qualify for the referral bonus, the hired candidate must have accepted our offer of employment within two months of your referral.

Thumbtack: Software Engineer San Francisco, CA
    Resized_logo

    Location: San Francisco, CA
    URL: http://www.thumbtack.com/

We're an early-stage (venture-capital funded) startup that's experiencing rapid growth and looking to expand our engineering team. We’re essentially Amazon for local services.

Thumbtack provides a marketplace and review site for local services such as handymen, tutors, gardeners, etc. Thumbtack gives users the ability to vet, contact, and book providers.

It's a robust platform and has a ton of traction already. We have 250,000 professionals signed up, 700,000 monthly uniques, and are growing rapidly. We just received $4.5 million in Series A funding in January bringing our total up to $6 million. We're at 12 people total (4 engineers) and come from a variety of interesting places (ex-Googlers, ex-White House employee, a few Stanford, Yale and Harvard alumni, etc).

    Why Thumbtack?
    • There’s a bounty of extremely difficult challenges we’re looking to tackle. Engineers are given freedom and autonomy over their projects and can pursue a variety of different avenues.
    • Help hundreds of thousands of mom & pop, independent professionals find work. We receive emails weekly from our users, thanking us for bringing them work that helps pay their bills and put gas in their cars.
    • Home-cooked meals daily by our gracious, Cordon Bleu trained chef. Also, weekly dinners serve plenty of wine and pasta and metaphysical debate.
    • Beautiful warehouse office in SoMa, close to the BART.
    • Competitive compensation, full benefits, and relocation assistance.
    • We will build your ultimate engineer setup! Your setup will include dual monitors (including a 30") and whatever desktop or laptop you so desire.

Some interesting problems we’ve tackled at Thumbtack:
    • Powerful event tracking, reporting, and experiment framework - We track and test everything, and needed a tool to log, aggregate, and analyze all that data. We built a tracking powerhouse whose crowning feature is an experimentation framework with beautiful statistics and visualizations that instantly tell us how code changes are affecting metrics across the board.
    • Dynamic web crawling - We built a fast, distributed crawler with custom data processing. It quickly scales up or down depending on our needs and the cost of machine time.
    • Elegant peer-to-peer payments - We’re making a true marketplace where buyers and sellers transact through our trusted payments. Building a fresh, engaging user experience is as important as protecting data security and integrity.

    Requirements:
We have no specific requirements, other than this: you must be a great problem solver who understands modern web technology and has a passion for great code.

We’re growing rapidly, so we’re looking to bring a variety of people on board who can help us keep up and expand into a bunch of different areas!

    Bonus points:
Experience with a scripting language, and the ability to pick up similar languages quickly (we use Python and PHP), battle-tested knowledge of Javascript, CSS, and modern web browsers, a basic understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (we use Postgres and MongoDB), Mobile web or application experience.
